First BT CCruiser Trip

 Day 1 August 10, 2023

We left home about 9:30 and the weather was good.  The motor home drove very well on the way down to the Long Beach Peninsula in Washington.  We went through McCleary to Montesano and headed south on hwy 107 which intersects with US 101.  We followed 101 south through Raymond and South Bend.  At the intersection with highway 4 we turned west to get to Long Beach.   The road from Raymond (101) to Long Beach was very rough. We camped at Columbia Shores RV park in Chinook which is a K/M resort at space 18.  Turns out their septic system for the RV park was shut down permanently because of a high water table.  Drove into town as Judy and I wanted to see the local ACE hardware store which was huge. We got a one scoop ice cream at Scoopers.where they serve only Tilamook.  Our favorite.    Judy had peppermint and I had white chocolate with raspberries.  Light dinner after big scoop of goodies. Spent the first night in the new bed and we slept OK.  We found out that we need to keep the place straightened out in order to know were things were put or the motor home got messy very quickly.

Day 2 August 11

We got up late, put the bed away and had breakfast.  Weather still nice with temp in the 70's with a light breeze.  Got the TV to work. After lunch we head out. It turns out our new little motor home has only 30 gallon holding tanks and we were used to bigger ones so later in the day we had to go dump.  Went to Marsh's Free Museum, bought some salt water taffy, then strolled the streets.

                                                                 Me and my buddy.
Judy with flowers and bees on the main drag.
                                                                  Marsh's Museum

                                                                        Judy in our kitchen
We went back to ACE to get new wiper blades for the motor home as the ones on were very hard and picked up a few other items.  Found Active Enterprise north of the town and dumped our first tank loads of waste water..  No trouble and the valves worked fine.  So far no real problems with any of the systems.  We had quiche for dinner with home grown cherry tomatoes.  After dinner I put on the new windshield wipers and washed the windows.  Hey, it is time for our evening T-cone.

Day 3 August 12 Saturday

We went to the Cranberry Museum close to Long Beach.  They showed the history of cranberry production here on the peninsula.  Old equipment with pictures of the machines in action.  It is an experimental farm with research by the WA state Univ.  Almost all the production is purchased by Ocean Spray after the harvest in October.  Lots of goodies with cranberries in them. We then headed North on highway 103 which runs on the East side of the peninsula.  Ate lunch near Nachatta looking out over the water.

Long Island nature preserve in the distance accessable by water only.
Went through the Oysterville historic district and then drove all the way to the end of the road to the state park at Leadbetter Point.  On the way back we saw two otter swimming in the water heading out into Willapa Bay.

The little dot in in the slough heading out to the bay is the otter.
On the way back stopped at a "antique" mall which was unique that all the stuff was organized in discrete places.  All all records were in just a few booths. Drove back to Long Beach on the ocean side and stopped at a Chinese restaurant for dinner.  Judy and I went to the club house to join four others playing "the nickel game".  Nice people.  Judy and I won three of the five games we played.  Ice cream cones back at the motor home.

Day 4 August 13

After breakfast we headed to Cape Disappointment State Park.  We stopped at several overlooks to view the ocean and beach below.   At the camping entrance we bought a year park pass.  Went to the RV dump.  It is obvious our tank level indicators do not give us the real liquid level.  Also, all RV's were not allowed to go the the parking lots for either of the lighthouses.  Not enough room I guess.  It was hot today and we did not want to hike the long distances.  We stopped at one of the boat launches for lunch.  It was getting really hot so we went back to the RV park and cooled off.  Ham, eggs, toast and salad for dinner.  Sorry no pictures as I forgot to take the SD card out of the computer and put it back in the camera.
