We found out the part for the motor home slider has been ordered and should be here tomorrow morning sometime. We drove about 18 miles into the desert West of El Paso, into New Mexico, to the Kilbourne Hole. This is an old volcano and has peridot in the basalt.
I did find some small crystals by climbing down into the crater and then busting apart some rocks but did not find any big ones. The best crystals are apparently in “bombs” and I did not find one of those and it would require more searching to find them.. It was very windy today so I did not take the time to look. We both had to take a shower to get the sand out of our hair.Day 233 Tuesday April 3
Well we got the motor home ready to get the slider fixed. Waited and finally the part came at 2 pm instead of by noon so we rushed over to Camping World. When we went to pick it up, they said there was also a different problem where a pin had created a big hole which also hindered the slider coming in. Would cost a bundle and take way too long. So we decided to wait until we got home. When we went to pay they wanted to charge us four hours for the two hours the motor home was in their shop. I complained and they finally cut the hours. So much for future work at Camping World. I was expecting my overnight shipped medicine and it turns out it was not shipped until late today instead of Monday so we will have to stay for a while tomorrow morning. Hopefully it will come by noon. Frustrating day.
Day 234 Wednesday April 4
Well the medicine did not come until 1:30 so we decided to leave for Carlsbad even though we would arrive late. When we went to put the slider in, it did not come in. Oh Boy! So I called Camping world and told them they should come and fix it. They said they had a number for a mobile service and I said it was their responsibility. Finally, Judy and I went back to Camping world and talked to the service manager who finally agreed to come and look. Well it turns out their super tech, when he lifted up the slide to put in the new Teflon glide, stuck the pin on the other side so it did not move. The service manager quickly found the problem and fixed it. So we spent another night in Anthony, Texas.
Day 235 Thursday April 5
We got ready to leave and cautiously brought the slider in. Whew, no problem. So off we went to Carlsbad. The campground owner told me to take hwy 404 East then turn right and go to 275 loop. Well, I somehow missed the turn and had to ask directions to get on. Finally, got on 375 and took the highway 66/180 to Carlsbad. Hot here. Stopped at Carlsbad RV park taking space E2 which was huge.
Day 236 Friday April 6 Good Friday
We went to Carlsbad Cavern National Park. We went in the natural entrance which wound down 800 feet into the ground in 1.6 miles.
The big cavern is the largest single cave known in the world and covers about 14 football fields.

Then we took the elevator up to the surface and ate lunch. I went back down the elevator to do the one mile big cave route. It was so nice I went back up and Judy and I did half the route which was about a mile. Spectacular.
I had been to part of the cave in the 1980’s. They greatly improved the walking path. Unfortunately, the line of people taking the elevator back up was very long and it took us about 40 minutes waiting to get to the surface. Very fun day.Day 237 Saturday April 7
We went rockhounding North of Artesia which is North of Carlsbad on highway 285. The site is just off the main road so we did not find very much but it was nice getting out in the bush.
We ate lunch there. Judy ripped her pants climbing through the barbed wire fence. We went home for her to change and then we headed off South a few miles to a junk store masquerading as an antique store. We had mussels and shrimp for dinner. Day 238 Sunday April 8 Happy Easter
We went to church in Carlsbad for Easter service. It was a very nice high mass. After lunch we went for a drive up into the Guadalupe mountains.
There is a view point near the top, actually a series of viewpoints.
It was very nice there and there was only a light breeze and the temperature was 66 degrees. For dinner we made a nice steak dinner with boiled red potatoes, asparagus , and salad. A glass of wine too with a candle.Day 239 Monday April 9
We left Carlsbad and headed North on hwy 285 to Roswell. Easy day trip. Spent the night at Town and Country RV park space 85. Heard on the evening news of severe weather around Carlsbad with hail up to an inch in diameter. Missed bad weather again. Have not seen any aliens yet but it is not dark yet.
Drove 80 miles today.
