We went towards Fernandina Beach but stopped at the Jeep dealer. We have had problems at times with the Jeep being in Part-Time 4 wheel drive after towing it. And it has been getting worse. The Jeep service said that the front differential fluid was dirty which may be causing the clutch to keep from shifting to 2 wheel drive. We picked up the car and drove into town. Stopped at Rayonier’s pulp mill and took a couple of pictures.

The guard their said the company Christmas party was being held at a place down on the Atlantic ocean beach. I wanted to talk to an old work mate there. So we went to the restaurant later and found him. He had been a process engineer when we worked together and now he is fiberline manager. Couldn’t stay long because of the party but it was fun talking to him a few minutes. When we got back to the RV park I tried putting the Jeep from 2 wheel drive to part-time 4 wheel time and back. It would not go back. Rats. We may have to stay until Monday to get it fixed.Day 105 Sunday December 4
Well the Jeep was still not getting out of 4 wheel drive. So we drove around town doing all kinds of shifting to try to break it free. No luck. We went looking for some boiled shrimp for a lunch snack. Found a place on the Southern end of the island. Nice balcony overlooking the ocean beach with a live band. Yummy “boiled” shrimp and a salad.
On the way home still the Jeep did not shift out of 4 wheel drive. Rats.Day 106 Monday December 5
Took Goldie back to the Jeep dealer to see about getting the stuck 4 wheel drive fixed. They found some metal shavings in the transfer case. All the gears and parts looked ok. The lubrication pump in the case they said was not putting out much oil as it looked very worn. They will get a new pump tomorrow and clean everything and put it back together. Hopefully cleaning and new pump will allow the transfer case to shift out of 4 wheel. Another day in Yulee.
Day 106 Tuesday December 6
Well they said they did not get the oil pump until later than they thought. They said in the early afternoon that they might get the transfer case done by the end of the day. Well, no they did not get it done. I washed the motor home in the morning and did some rock polishing in the afternoon. Judy did some beading.
Day 107 Wednesday December 7
The shop did not call so I called them. They said they were working on the transfer case but found out they needed a new seal and it had not come in and should be there in the morning and the Jeep should be done by 10 am.. Judy and I are getting tired of this.
Day 108 Thursday December 8
Well, no call so we called again. They said they were working on it. Later, in the day at 2 pm, they called and said that what they were doing was not working and the problem seemed to be in the planetary gears and it would take 3 to 5 days for a new one. Well, we were not happy campers so we called and told them we were tired of all this and to do something, that that amount of time was unacceptable. They call back and said a rebuilt one would be shipped from Michigan overnight and the car should done Friday. Can we hope?
Day 109 Friday December 9
Last evening and this morning, Judy and I worked on a 1000 piece puzzle. We waited and about 2 pm the shop called and said our transfer case was in and they had started working on putting it in. Well they finally called at 4:45 and came to pick us up and take us to see Goldie. We checked her out and paid and brought here home. Finally.
Day 110 Saturday December 10
We left Yulee and headed South on I-95 to St. Augustine. It is the oldest city in the US and was started in 1595 by the Spanish. They built the Castile de San Marco fort out of a local sandstone/shell material called coquina to protect the area from the British. Judy and I parked and walked down St. George street which was the main street in the original town. I was here in 1975 and today it is much different. The area is like Disneyland with mostly shopping and restaurants. We did hit it lucky though in that it was the 32 annual Christmas boat parade on the river. So we ate dinner in an outdoor restaurant and then watch part of the parade. The fort had a special opening evening with “soldiers” from every era of the fort’s existence. So we went there and enjoyed it too. They fired cannons at the start and end of the boat parade. We did a little shopping . A very fun evening. Left the camera at home.
Drove 74 miles
Day 111 Sunday December 11
Today we drove South on I-95 to Mims, FL and Seasons in the Sun RV park space 5. After lunch we went to the Kennedy Space Center. Wow! was it different than it was in 1975 when I was here last. It cost $45 each to get in but includes a lot. We took the bus tour to several sites. One was at launch site 39 where most of the early launches were controlled and the control center was still set up as it was back then.

Went past the big, largest single open interior building in the world, the vehicle assembly building where the rockets were attached to the space shuttle, and way back to the earlier programs.
Then to a museum where there was one of the original Saturn 5 rockets. At the main visitor center we watched two IMAX shows. One was about the early manned moon project and the other was about the Hubble telescope program. Both were in 3-D. They had an outside display of some of the early rockets.
It was very nice and not too crowded for a Sunday.Day 112 Monday December 12
Left Mims and headed South on I-95 to Port St. Lucie and the Port St. Lucie RV Resort taking space number 2. On the way down were some very hard rain storms. Lucky the freeway is not crowded.
Drove 117 miles today.
Day 113 Tuesday December 13
We went for a drive today from St. Lucie out to the outer barrier islands. We stopped and put our feet in the sand and walked the beach,
saw a crab, egrets, and pelicans.

Temperature was 77 degrees but windy. For dinner we went to an assisted living home to see our friend Linda’s mother, father, sister and brother-in-law in Stuart. Matt and Linda are the people we will be visiting in Merida. We had a very nice dinner and visit. Judy and I were very pleased to have met them.
Day 114 Wednesday December 14
We drove to Fort Lauderdale on I-95 to Commercial Ave. and to the Kozy Kampers RV Park taking space 58. It is a very crowded place but close to the airport and has storage for the motor home while we go to Mexico. Temperature was 78 today.
